Quintessential Equity welcomes WorkSafe in Geelong building at forefront of sustainability and wellbeing

    Diversified property group Quintessential Equity will formally hand over the keys of Geelong’s tallest and most advanced building to WorkSafe Victoria at a ceremony today with Minister Robin Scott.

    The Chief Executive Officer of Quintessential Equity, Russell Bullen, congratulated the largely-local workforce on completing the 14-storey, 65 metre tall building at 1 Malop St on time, on budget, safely and to exceptional environmental and technical standards.

    “We’d like to thank WorkSafe for the trust they placed in us to develop their new headquarters, and to congratulate the design and construction team on doing such a fantastic job in creating this landmark,” he said.

    “Geelong is leading the way with this building, which is at the forefront of global standards, both environmentally and in terms of design for human health and wellbeing. It’s going to be a great place to work, in the midst of Geelong’s increasingly-vibrant CBD.

    “The success of the project has been the result of great collaboration between the Quintessential Equity team and WorkSafe, along with funding from the Clean Energy Finance Corporation.”

    More than 300 Geelong based construction workers contributed to the project out of a total workforce of almost 600.

    With views over Corio Bay and Johnstone Park, the WorkSafe building boasts amenities including a café on the ground floor, a roof deck, and end-of-journey facilities with over 100 bike racks.

    “Even though WorkSafe has now moved in, our work is not done. We will be working with the team to fine-tune the building’s environmental performance now that it’s occupied, and make sure everything is working optimally,” Russell said.

    The building has achieved a number of milestones – 1 Malop St has been designed and built to target a 5.5 Star NABERS Base Building Energy Rating is the first 6 Star Green Star Rating project in Geelong, and has achieved a Platinum Core & Shell WELL Building Standard Rating – the first in Victoria and only the second in the world to achieve these WELL credentials

    Last year, the building became the first in Australia to be awarded WELL Precertification by the International WELL Building InstituteTM (IWBI™) in both of the two categories – Core & Shell, and Interiors – together.

    Russell said that WELL represented the next evolution of sustainable buildings and has exceeded Quintessential Equity’s vision for a true ‘Live, work, play” office facility in the heart of Geelong.

    “That includes occupant wellbeing as well as environmental attributes, with a thorough assessment based on seven categories – air, water, nourishment, light, fitness, comfort and mind,” he said.
