Australian businesses help pave a new way forward for fostering in Victoria

    Media Release | 23 April 2020

Five leading Australian businesses, including commercial property group Quintessential Equity, have come together to support Lighthouse Foundation’s new foster care program in getting off the ground.

ADZ Collective, Provincial Home Living, QMS Media and REA GROUP have given over $750,000 worth of pro bono goods and services to the charity, as well as significant ongoing funding from Quintessential Equity who had committed to supporting the program in its early stages.

Lighthouse’s new ‘Foster Hub’ program offers regular respite and counselling services within a dedicated home in Ivanhoe East, funded by Quintessential Equity, where families can come to connect, reflect and grow together.

The program aims to address some of the current challenges in the foster care system by providing tailored, trauma-informed support within an established local community network. Due to COVID-19, the charity has also adapted to offer one-on-one support to families in the hub, including online counselling for those self-isolating.

Lighthouse hopes that this greater level of support, developed from their 30 years of front-line experience, will ultimately lead to less placement breakdowns and provide a much-needed solution to the system.

“We have been dreaming of launching this program for well over a year. Now, thanks to the support of Quintessential Equity, we have finally been able to open our hub, which has been made a home thanks to the beautiful furnishings donated by Provincial Home Living,” says Simon Benjamin, CEO of Lighthouse Foundation.

“We are truly overwhelmed by the support of these companies who share in our vision – to provide a safe home and community for homeless kids to belong, heal and thrive.”

Quintessential Equity executive chairman, Shane Quinn, says the company is thrilled to assist this amazing cause which offers tailored, consistent support to foster children and their families in our local community.

“Quintessential Equity is proud to support the Lighthouse Foundation’s latest initiative which will make life that little bit easier for foster children and their families to receive the support that they need,” says Quinn.

“After securing an amazing property in Ivanhoe East, we hope that this becomes a safe and welcoming place that will improve the lives of these vulnerable children. Together with our like-minded partners, we are pleased to be able to play a role in getting this program successfully off the ground.”

Lighthouse is now recruiting foster carers in the surrounding suburbs, using a geo-targeted campaign created pro bono by marketing agency, ADZ Collective. The campaign utilises donated digital and out-of-home advertising space from REA GROUP and QMS Media to promote the program to different suburbs in Melbourne.

“We couldn’t have asked for a better team to help us launch this program. The campaign showcases our unique therapeutic approach by asking the audience to ‘rethink foster care’. We’re so lucky to have the support of ADZ, and our existing partners REA and QMS, who have helped bring this campaign to life through their digital space,” says Benjamin.

“At Lighthouse, we believe that caring for children is everyone’s business so to see these organisations rally together for these kids means so much. In 2019, there were more than 3,000 Victorian children in desperate need of a home. We know that there are kind, capable people out there who could be foster carers – we just needed a voice to reach them. We promise to do the rest by supporting and walking alongside these families in the most worthwhile journey they could ever go on,” says Susan Barton AM, founder of Lighthouse Foundation.

The overall collaborative effort of these five Australian businesses – ADZ Collective, Provincial Home Living, QMS Media, REA GROUP and Quintessential Equity – proves that diversity can foster innovation as they unite together to create a better future for generations to come.

Lighthouse is still searching for nine more families willing to foster a child, to join their program.
